Barracuda Championship Partners with Visit Truckee-Tahoe for Sustainability Efforts

TRUCKEE, Calif. (July 5, 2022) – Visit Truckee-Tahoe announces its Sustainable Community Partnership with the Barracuda Championship, an official PGA TOUR event to be held at Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood July 14-17, 2022.  Since inception in 1999, the event is overseen by the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation and has donated $4.7M in charity.

Visit Truckee-Tahoe (VTT) supports the tournament’s stewardship messaging through Sustainable Truckee branded waste and recycling receptacles with detailed instructions on waste sorting. In addition, VTT is supplying Sustainable Truckee Ambassador t-shirts for Truckee High School athlete volunteers to wear throughout tournament week. Approximately 40 students will assist event attendees with waste sorting throughout the event and within each of the hospitality venues.

“We’ve placed a large emphasis on and realized the importance of making our event more sustainable and beneficial to the Truckee community and we’re thankful to include Visit Truckee-Tahoe and the Sustainable Truckee initiative as a vital partner in these efforts,” says Chris Hoff, tournament director for the Barracuda Championship.

After the tournament, post-event waste materials (lumber scraps, Outdoor Astroturf, Screened Mesh) are planned to be upcycled. VTT worked with the Town of Truckee’s Keep Truckee Green Department to advise event producers on who to connect with for upcycling.
