Sustainability
Barracuda Championship is committed to sustainability within our PGA TOUR tournament and the local community. Take a look at some of the ways we’re working to create a greener future.
Partnership with Visit Truckee-Tahoe
In 2022, the Barracuda Championship and Visit Truckee-Tahoe announced our Sustainable Community Partnership. Visit Truckee-Tahoe providing Sustainable Truckee branded waste and recycling receptacles during the tournament. Sustainable Truckee is an initiative funded by Visit Truckee-Tahoe that works to promote tourism while encouraging people to make green, climate-conscious choices.
Partnership with Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and Forest Futures
Ahead of the 2022 Barracuda Championship, PGA TOUR players Joshua Creel and Jonas Blixt joined representatives from TTCF and the Placer County Fire Department to hike to the Sawtoon/06 and Route 89 corridor trail to look at evacuation routes, the wildland urban interface and current efforts by the TTCF and its Forest Futures campaign. The hike showcased the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy forest and took the golfers to a lookout over 5 Creeks – a key evacuation route that has yet to be fully cleared.
Going Green on the Green
The Barracuda Championship is continuously working to implement new practices that will further our sustainability efforts. After the 2022 tournament, post-event waste materials, such as lumber scraps, outdoor astroturf and screened mesh, were upcycled thanks to our partnership with Visit Truckee-Tahoe.
Lake Tahoe Cleanup
PGA TOUR Pro Andrew Putnam went scuba diving with the “Clean Up the Lake” crew prior to the 2021 Barracuda Championship. This organization is dedicated to cleaning up trash underwater throughout the 72-mile circumference of Lake Tahoe. Watch the video to learn more about this initiative and Andrew Putanam’s experience.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Barracuda Championship is committed to advancing diversity in golf. During the 2022 tournament, we hosted a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) webinar sponsored by Bank of America. Watch the webinar now!
