International Spotlight Shines on Reno PGA TOUR Event June 30-July 3

RENO, Nev. (June 27, 2016)—The Barracuda Championship, northern Nevada’s only PGA TOUR event, will see one of its players compete in golf’s original championship, The Open. The qualifying place for The 145th Open at Royal Troon that was on offer at the cancelled Greenbrier Classic on the PGA TOUR will move to the Barracuda Championship at Montreux Golf and Country Club June 30 through July 3.

“It’s a tremendous honor to have The R&A extend this invitation to the participants in our tournament,” said Chris Hoff, tournament director for the Barracuda Championship.

Organized by The R&A and played since 1860 on links golf courses, The Open is golf’s most international major championship with qualifying events on every continent. For one week each year, the pursuit of the famous Claret Jug trophy is the focus of the sporting world, followed globally by millions of fans.

A total of 44 places in The 145th Open at Royal Troon are available through The Open Qualifying Series (TOQS), which gives players the opportunity to qualify at events around the world on the PGA TOUR, the European Tour, the PGA Tour of Australasia, the Asian Tour, the Japan Golf Tour and the Sunshine Tour.

The Greenbrier Classic was scheduled to be the last stop in The Open Qualifying Series, but the event has been cancelled due to the devastating flooding caused by record rainfall in West Virginia.

One player who finishes in the top five and ties at the Barracuda Championship, who is not already exempt for The Open, will secure a place in The Open July 14-17. In the event of a tie, the place will go to the player with the higher ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) for the week commencing June 27.

The 18th Barracuda Championship tees off June 27 through July 3 with tickets starting at $25. Visit for more information.
