RENO, Nev. (May 18, 2016) – Local favorite Scott Smith from Fallon, Nev., wins the 2016 Reno Open and exemption to the Barracuda Championship PGA TOUR event with a score of 25 in the Modified Stableford format. The two-day tournament took place at Washoe Golf Course for the second year in a row after a nearly 70-year hiatus.

“We had a great turn out this year with about 80 players from around the country including some local talent,” said Chris Hoff, executive director of the Barracuda Championship. “This is a unique opportunity to have a chance at a cash purse and an exemption into a PGA TOUR event. Congratulations to Scott Smith. We are excited to see him at the Barracuda Championship this year.”

Yesterday’s leaders, Southern Californians Matt Pridey and Matthew Negri, ended the day with 18 points followed by Smith with 14 points.

Smith came out on top on day two taking home part of the $7,500 cash purse and an exemption into the Barracuda Championship PGA TOUR event, June 27-July 3. Proceeds from both tournaments benefit the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation.
