Pac-12 All-Stars Wyndham Clark, Maverick McNealy Receive 2017 Barracuda Championship Expemptions

RENO, Nev. (June 13, 2017) – Awarding an exemption into a PGA TOUR event is not a decision that is made lightly. After research, talking with coaches and watching play, The Barracuda Championship has announce two more exemptions to the 2017 tournament field; University of Oregon’s Wyndham Clark and Stanford University’s Maverick McNealy. The top-rated Pac-12 athletes, both leading their respective teams to the 2017 NCAA Championships, are exciting additions to the region’s only PGA TOUR event.

“We are so excited to have Maverick and Wyndham join us this August at Montrêux,” said Tournament Director Chris Hoff. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Wyndham’s coaches at Oregon, Casey and John, and when they called saying we should look at Wyndham, I knew he was the real deal. The adversity he’s dealt with and the success he’s had is just incredible. With Maverick, to have the number one ranked amateur in the world two years in a row and one of the most accomplished players to come out of Stanford tee it up in the Barracuda is going to be great for our fans to see in person.”

Wyndham Clark transferred to the University of Oregon from Oklahoma State in 2016 and was anointed Player of the Year in the Big-12 in 2014 and Pac-12 Player of the Year in 2017. He won the Pac-12 Championship and helped lead the Ducks to an appearance in the NCAA Championship match.

Hailing from Stanford University, Maverick McNealy is already being compared to notable alumni Tiger Woods and Patrick Rodgers, tying them both with 11 career college victories. The 2016-2017 Ben Hogan Award winner and Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year finished his final collegiate season with a 69.72 stroke average and nine top-20 finishes out of 10 starts.

The Barracuda Championship PGA TOUR event will take place July 31 through August 6. Proceeds benefit the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation.
