John Chin Wins 2015 Reno Open and Barracuda Championship Exemption

RENO, Nev. (May 13, 2015) – Hailing from Temecula, Calif., John Chin wins the 2015 Reno Open and exemption to the Barracuda Championship PGA TOUR event with a score of +17 in the Modified Stableford format.

Yesterday’s leader Ben Fox and John Chin were tied after the 18th hole as Fox birdied and Chin eagled, leading into a sudden death playoff on 18. As the pair played the hole, Fox hit from the fairway and landed low right with a rough lie right outside the bunker while Chin was able to two-putt his way to victory.

When asked how his historic win felt, Chin said “It feels good. I’ve been working on my game and am a better player than I was when I played the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2010. Last time I felt lucky to play, this time I’m excited to have a chance to actually compete with the players.”

The Reno Open returned to Washoe Golf Course after several decades and presented professional and amateur golfers the unique opportunity to play for an exemption to the Barracuda Championship PGA TOUR event.

“We’re thrilled with the turnout for the tournament our first year back,” said Chris Hoff, tournament director for the Barracuda Championship. “We love giving exemptions to the PGA Tournament. It’s the best way for these amateur and mini-pro players to get on the TOUR, and it’s great to be a part of.”
