Volunteer Opportunities are Still Available for 17th Annual Event in Reno

RENO, Nev. (July 20, 2015) – The 17th Annual Barracuda Championship is almost here, and golf fans still have the opportunity to get up close and personal as volunteers for the region’s only PGA TOUR event. To register, visit or call 775-322-3900.

As a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, the Barracuda Championship relies on more than 1,000 volunteers to help make the event a success, including the organization’s support of other non-profits in the area including the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, Children’s Cabinet, First Tee of Northern Nevada, Veterans Guest House and others.

“The Barracuda Championship continues to be a success year after year thanks in a large part to our volunteers,” said Tournament Director Chris Hoff. “And even though the work they help us do during the tournament is crucial, its benefit is seen year-round as we’re able to support so many other charities in the Reno-Tahoe community. Not to mention, it’s an amazing opportunity to get up close to some of the best players in the game.”

With the tournament only two weeks away, volunteer opportunities are filling up fast, but there is still a need for laser operators and marshals.

Volunteers who want to be part of the Barracuda Championship but cannot or don’t want to walk are perfect laser operators who are stationed along the fairways and greens of each hole to record and transmit the location and distance of each of the professionals’ shots with the SHOTLink system through the use of tripod lasers.

Marshals have the opportunity to assist tournament security in managing the flow of spectators, ensuring the continuity of play, gallery safety and the safety of the PGA TOUR professionals. Additionally, marshals are paramount in enforcing the mobile device policy and are stationed all along the beautiful Montrêux Golf Course.

The $55 fee includes the required uniform with exclusive branded material, a meal during each shift, tournament tickets and invitations to the Volunteer Appreciation Parties, valued at more than $200. As always, military veterans, active duty, guard and reserve, first responders and high school students can volunteer at no cost.
