Barracuda Championship 2019 Final Round News & Notes
First-time PGA TOUR champion Collin Morikawa took home the trophy at round four of the 21st annual Barracuda Championship with a +47 (+13/+7/+13/+14). Morikawa received a sponsor exemption to the tournament and just recently turned professional following a record-setting collegiate career. Troy Merritt took the second-place spot with +44 (+7/+12/+18/+7) and John Chin and Robert Streb tied for third with +40 (+9/+11/+11/+9) and (+13/+12/+10/+5) respectively.
Morikawa is a four-time PING All-America Selection, with three All-America First Team awards – the first player in University of California, Berkeley history to do so. With five career wins, he played a total of 149 rounds for Cal with a 69.78 stroke average – another school record. He appeared in all four Pac-12 Championships throughout his career and won the title in 2019 before being named the 2019 Pac-12 Player of the Year. At the 2019 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships, the La Cañada Flintridge, California-native tied for 6th place – four spots better than his 10th place finish in 2016. Golfweek’s Men’s Golf National Player of the Year in 2018, Morikawa was a two-time finalist for the Ben Hogan Award, a finalist for the 2019 Byron Nelson Award and among the Final-Ten Watchlist for the 2019 Fred Haskins Award.
Morikawa is the fourth consecutive winner of the Barracuda Championship to earn first TOUR victory at this event. It was his third consecutive top-five finish on TOUR while recording his 13th consecutive round under par this season.
