Alistair Docherty Wins Reno Open, Exemption to Barracuda Championship

RENO, Nev. (April 26, 2019) – Today, Alistair Docherty was awarded an exemption into the 2019 Barracuda Championship after winning this year’s Reno Open. The three-day tournament was held at Wolf Run Golf Club.

“The course was exactly what we needed for this event,” said Mike O’Leary, Executive Director of the Golden State Golf Tour. “Conditions were good and opportunities for eagles and birdies were plenty. We saw some great scores. It all made for an exciting tournament from the first tee shot.”

Docherty won the 2019 Reno Open in a playoff against Matt Picanso of Vista, Calif. The number 18 playoff hole proved to be the key to Docherty’s day. Alistair birdied, while Picanso parred.

“That playoff gave me new life and I am so excited to walk away with the win. This means the world to me,” said Docherty.

The Barracuda Championship will be Docherty’s first PGA TOUR event.

“I am looking forward to sharing that incredible moment with my family. I owe everything to them so for us to share something so special like that means everything.”

Hailing from Vancouver, Wash. Docherty played college golf at Chico State where he was a three-time All American and represented Team USA at the 2016 Palmer Cup in Fromby, England.

“We can’t wait to host Alistair and his family this summer,” said Chris Hoff, Barracuda Championship Tournament Director. “Our Reno Open partnership with the Golden State Tour, and Mike O’Leary, offers unique opportunities for some really talented golfers to play on the world’s biggest stage.”

Docherty leaves Reno with $6,000. He will return to Reno July 22-28, 2019 to compete in the Barracuda Championship, the area’s only PGA TOUR event.
